Principal Cryptographer at the NATO Headquarters

Mateusz Buczek works as a Principal Cryptographer at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels. His main focus is improving interoperability, strengthening cyber resilience and preparing the Alliance for emerging technological challenges. Especially those related to security implications of quantum technologies and the transition towards quantum-safe solutions.

He has robust experience both within NATO – he worked in both the Strategic Commands in Europe and in the United States, as well as Academia and industry. Last one spanning from international corporations all the way down to startups. With a background in applied cryptography, secure communications and cyber defence, he has contributed to research and development projects in the fields of military communications, cryptographic systems and national security. He holds multiple recognized cybersecurity certification, constantly struggling to maintain them in-between multiple sailing adventures.
