Michał Parniak, PhD

Group Leader in the Centre for Quantum Optical Technologies QOT, University of Warsaw

Dr Michał Parniak is a group leader in the Centre for Quantum Optical Technologies QOT and an associate professor at the Optics Division, Institute of Experimental Physics, Faculty of Physics. His research interests cover a range of topics in quantum optics, such as single-photon detection, optical quantum information processing and communication, atomic ensembles, nonlinear optics and quantum optomechanics. Within QOT, he develops experimental implementations of quantum protocols.

His most significant scientific achievements include demonstrating super-resolution in imaging using two-photon interference, demonstrating the record-breaking quantum memory in terms of its capacity, and demonstrating the first entanglement of macroscopic spin and mechanical systems.

Lately, he has led research in quantum sensing based on Rydberg atoms, obtaining an ERC Starting grant for the Quantum Rydberg Antenna Systems. He also leads commercialization of Rydberg sensors in collaboration with the European Space Agency, and is a co-founder of QuRA.space sp. z o.o. – a spin-off of the University of Warsaw.
