Andreas Masuhr, PhD

Head of the Quantum Initiative at Swiss Academy of Sciences, Swiss Quantum Commission

Andreas Masuhr is a physicist based in Bern at the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT). As Head of the Swiss Quantum Initiative, his work sits at the intersection of science and innovation, policy, science diplomacy, and multiple industry sectors. Before joining SCNAT in early 2023, he spent over 20 years in the private sector as a programme manager and entrepreneur, leading strategy and innovation programmes in the telecommunications and high-tech industries.

Andreas also played a key role in coordinating the Swiss Quantum Strategy, published in 2026, helping translate input from across Switzerland’s quantum community into a clear national roadmap. In this capacity, he supports alignment between research, innovation, industry needs, and policy priorities, as well as international collaboration opportunities across the Swiss quantum ecosystem.

He studied physics at the University of Münster and earned his doctorate in materials science at Caltech in Pasadena. In his free time, he enjoys the Swiss Alps, philosophy, and good food (or some combination thereof).
